Frank Liu

Tell me what makes you tick as a pastor?
A number of years ago, I spent some time away with God.  During that retreat, God 'spoke' to me and shared a very personal message:
"Frank, I have not created you for insignificance!"
That statement...that affirmation has launched me into discovering a newfound passion to make my life count. My daily motivation comes from seeing people around me living incomplete lives...lives that fall short of who God has created them to become. My heart is to help people reach and fulfill their God-given potential. To that end, I will challenge, teach, cajole, flog, bribe, and use whatever means I have available to motivate those around me to settle for nothing less than God's best and to fulfill their responsibility to advance God's Kingdom in our generation.

What are you passionate about?  What is a daily drive for you?
My heart is to see people fulfill their God-given potential. When I look at your young people today, I see people who are struggling with insecurities, a lack of purpose, and a lack of impact. I see young people who are hungering for meaning and spirituality, but not looking to Jesus Christ and the church to satisfy that hunger.
I simply want to do my part to nurture the passion and gifts in their soul as God has nurtured and grown mine.

What is one thing you want Awaken Church to do well?

When I envision our church, I picture a medical clinic set in the midst of a battlefield. And, in that clinic there is a clear responsibility to: (1) be a sanctuary where broken people can find healing and rest, and (2) to arm and equip those same people to return to the battlefield.
The Bible teaches us that we are in the midst of a spiritual war and I want to our people to discover what it is to live in the midst of that reality. The first part of that reality is to have people come and discover a meaningful relationship with God and the church that will help heal and build lives. The second part of that reality is to remind people of our life's purpose and empower them to daily live out that mandate. I pray our church will do both of these well.
"Some people want to live within the sound of chapel bells, but I want to run a mission a yard from the gates of hell." - C.T. Studd
I REALLY enjoy spending time with my wife and four children. My family has this striking balance of "chaotic-stability" that I love being around. I also enjoy reading, playing video and board games, and whatever sports my aging body is able to endure.

What do you want God to say about your time on earth?

I know that someday I will stand before the Lord and be accountable for how I have spent my life here. I hope HE will be pleased with how I have tried to be a loving husband, devoted father, empowering pastor, and faithful friend. Most importantly, however, I pray God will look into my eyes and tell me, "Well done, my good and faithful servant...enter into the joy of your Master."
